Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google is said to have opened talks with two contract manufacturing partners in India, including Dixon Technologies, and Foxconn. According to a report from The Economic Times, Google is planning to shift a significant portion of the global Google Pixel production of smartphones to Vietnam into India. This move is in response to the increasing tariff risk linked to Vietnam the current Google's primary manufacturing hub for the Pixel range, according to the report.

Google as per this report is looking into not only increasing manufacturing within India in order to export it into the US as well as slowly bringing key components into the country, such as enclosures and chargers for fingerprint sensors and batteries. The majority of these are imported at present.

Similar to many other tech firms, Google is looking at this possibility of a shift due to threats of tariffs from the US that have proposed the levy of 46% for imports coming from Vietnam in comparison to 26% in India.

Recently, Nothing CEO Carl Pei also hinted at a potential increase in exports to India in light of the possibility that Trump tariffs are looming large.

A 90-day break on the reciprocal tariffs came into in April 9th, 10% duty on the baseline remains. China remains the primary supplier of the majority of Pixel manufacturing, is subject to an imposing 145% tariff, and is not included in this temporary relief.

According to the report, at present, Google produces around 43,000-45,000 Pixel units each month in India completely for the Indian market. Dixon manages the bulk of production, including the latest models, in its Noida factory, along together with Taiwan's Compal Electronics. Foxconn is, on the contrary side, concentrates on the older Google pixel India models at the Tamil Nadu plant and was the first company to begin made in India Pixel in August.
